PHP originally stood for “Personal homepage”, but now it stands for “PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor”. It is mainly used on web servers, and supports all major operating systems and platforms. The PHP website describes it as “fast, flexible and pragmatic” and claims it “supports everything from your blog to the world’s most popular websites.” “It’s powerful enough to be the core of the biggest blogging system on the web (WordPress)! It’s powerful enough to run the biggest social network (Facebook)! It’s also easily enough to be a beginner’s first server language!” The language is integrated with a number of popular databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix and Microsoft SQL Server.
